When looking to get published, make sure that you have an ISBN and a barcode if you plan to sell your books in stores. For just $55, as of January 2nd, 2011, you can purchase these items through http://www.publisherservices-us.com/. This site is worthwhile since purchasing an ISBN directly through the distributer, Bowker, is over $100 and the barcode is another $25.
A word to the wise: before purchasing a barcode, make sure you know your cost for publishing your book or other project. Determine your profit margin, and then set your price. Keep in mind that stores buy the product at wholesale prices - generally 40% off the list price of the book. Once you have balanced your costs with your profits and managed to stay within a reasonable price range, determine your list price. One option with your barcode is including the price. This is a great option and is highly recommended by Riverhaven Books.
